You can buy "food grade" (whatever that means....maybe it means you can use
if for lip gloss too :-) silicone grease at any SCUBA shop. Very pure and a
super cork grease. A little bit goes a very long way. You can buy a small
"tub" (traditional cork grease tub size) for a couple of bucks and it will
last a long time.

Pure anhydrous lanolin (which is a thick grease) works well as a cork
grease. You can buy a 1-lb jar of USP anhydrous lanolin at most
pharmacies, and in addition to being safe (suitable for medicinal
purposes), you will also spend less money over the long run. Those
$1.49 tubes add up after awhile.
