Just a comment on plastic Yamahas, which I am sure are reasonable for you=
ng
students. I remember most of my fellow students in elementary school ren=
ted
them. I had a CONN that my Dad bought at a garage sale for $10 in about =
1983.=20
Recently, I rented a Yamaha while my own instrument was being overhauled =
and
found the experience very dissatisfactory. While I certainly never expec=
ted
the tone of the instrument to be very good, especially compared to my R-1=
3, the
keys for teh left hand little finger were twisted such that they consiste=
ntly
became stuck against one another. I was the first renter of this particu=
lar
instrument so no previous user could have caused the damage. This serves
simply as a heads up to be sure that the actual clarinet is reasonable, l=
ike
most "brands", there is variability from instrument to instrument.
