WHAT PART OF THAT DO YOU NOT UNDERSTAND?

It's also not about conservative Jews, Muslims, Sikhs, Hindus, Eastern
Orthodox. It's about extremism and people who presume to speak for God.

Sue, I love you, but this whole line of discussion is not only poison,
it's poison seeping into the roots of the wrong tree. It has been
filled with leaps of faith which consist of what I'd expect by now:
condemning gay marriage and continuing to promulgate quasi-biological
theories about human behavior. Poor God: so much is said in His name
that He must sometimes weep. Anyone who challenges those ideas is
anti-Christian? That's the best one yet. It's thick and mendacious.

As a born Jew who happens to despise the government of Israel (I was
going to soften that but I'm trying to be honest), I guess that makes me
an anti-Semite? (Be REAL careful how you answer that) Do I have to
purchase the whole package, including Ariel Sharon? As someone who
plans to vote 3rd party at best and John Kerry at worst, I suppose I am
un-American because I don't support President Bush and the cabal
operating him like Buffalo Bob pulled Howdy Doody's strings.

From my "own" tradition. A few years ago a group of Chassidic rabbis
gathered in front of City Hall in New York to call down curses upon the
City Council for voting positively on a gay rights' bill. Well, New
York is in no worse shape now than then, unless the rabbis are willing
to claim that Al Qaeda flew those planes into the WTC because some guy
was socking it to another guy. How about hetero sex instead because
both fornication and adultery happen in New York 24x7 even more in real
life than they do on Sex In The City? If the idea of God some people
have is that His first concern is who's Doing It and how, how pathetic
can you get? Can you spell "sex-obsessed"? This is the same skewed
thinking as whatever issued from some rabbi in Europe who said the
Holocaust was sent by God to punish the Jews because too few of them
observed their Laws. Right. Six million or more people died because a
bunch of guys didn't light candles, went to work on Saturday, had sexual
intercourse with some woman during her period, or didn't check their
clothing for prohibited linen/wool mixtures. The arrogance of these
moral cretins is overwhelming.

I heard Karen Armstrong, former nun, describe herself on NPR the other
night as a "freelance monotheist." Works for me. God is there, yes;
but the representations of him I've read here and elsewhere on the issue
of gays make Him look like he was painted by Francis Bacon. If you
don't know, run a Google search but make sure you finished lunch.
