Audrey,

The problem is that French of the Parisian persuasion consider all other
French dialects to be inferior - including the regional dialects of
France. The more geographically distant the dialect, the more they turn up
their noses. (The Parisians consider "their" language to be as important
as Oxford English or BBC English.)
