I disagree. Yes, many atrocities have been committed in the name of god(s), but
many beautiful things -- art, architecture, music, to name a few -- have also
been done in the name of same.

On the other hand, people don't necessarily need their gods either in order to
commit acts of cruelty or beauty.

The world might be a *different* place, but not necessarily better.
