Having had students from many parts of the world where English is more or
less spoken, I have had amusing incidents when certain British expressions
are used. A young man from Jamaica told me he was late to an evening class
because he had to "first knock up his girlfriend." I puzzle over what a
"kit" is. "Bollocks" has some sort of hidden meaning of whcih I am not
aware although I understand it in context. And then there's "Mind the Gap!"
which made sense to me only after taking the "tube" all over London.
