Matthew,

I was trying to say that the words you use have been used by the English =
for a long time. The language in America comes from many sources (we =
are a melting pot of cultures). So much of what is modern and new comes =
from this side of the pond and the rest of the world uses the =
terminology assigned to it as it was created here. But there would not =
be an America as we know it today without the British. I'm not trying =
to offend anyone, I'm only trying to show the historical path that the =
development of our language on this side of the pond with citing a =
zillion examples.
