An English friend of mine related this story about a friend
of his on a visit to the US: Leaving the airport in his hired
car, he took a wrong turn that took him away from the city
rather than toward it. He saw a sign that said "Pavement ends"
and was thinking to himself "So what?" as he hit the loose-gravel
road at 60 mph.
