Yep, I have SpamAssassin provided by my server hosts, which I've
reconfigured with less headroom allowed than they provided as being
"typical" at setup. Further malicious content is effectively removed
here. SpamAssassin has proven a very good server-side utility.

I remember PINE (I had full Microport Unix on an old 286 PC back in the
days of...); and I do encourage people to configure whatever e-mail
features possible as "text only" both inbound and outbound.

My thanks to Mark Charette and all other e-list owners who keep posts
limited to "text only."

Because of my music journalism work, I do have to accept some
attachments that I'd rather get by other means, because "most people out
there" seem to not have a handle on comprehending other means of
delivery. But reasonable precautions are in place and effective so far.
With my composers, I encourage them to use FTP for large binary files,
and have an "isolated" place where they can upload and download when needed.
