While in general I thoroughly agree with what Dan says, I must point out one
issue with basset- or other extended instruments (such as Full Boehm) which
is relevant:

(Something which is important to anyone who, for example, is thinking of
playing the Berio Sequenza IXa, which assumes a full Boehm instrument.)

It's not merely a matter of length either. Recently I had the pleasure of
trying out some of Steve Fox's instruments and noticed several significant
differences in multiphonics on the Benade-influenced models.
