Tony,

You assume that governments have our (the people) best interest at heart.
Perhaps on a whole you are correct. But in Bush's case....we have two
clearly political (abusive) motives at work. (referring to the marriage
amendment of course)
1 pander to the extreme religious faction ("moral right")(voting block)
2 protect corporations (benefits; i.e. insurance, etc.)(Bush's paycheck)
I don't think we really have to worry much about this amendment passing here
in America. At some point in time this country is going to wake up and fight
their way back out of a dark age.
