Michelle, and all colleagues,
I was brought up in a hetrosexual home and I was happy. I have also seen
happy same-sex parents with kids. But there will be the other side of the
fence in both environments.
And yes, granting legal rights is indeed at present unfair, and must be
addressed.
So why do governments decide to suddenly throw 'spanners into the works'?
Governments i.e. us, the people, do not have any more superior insight or
foresight than anyone else, but they do have more opportunities than we do,
to consult with councillors, paediatricians, the clergy, and law and it`s
effects. We all have to agree that to poo poo governments at the drop of a
hat, is for us ourselves, to ignore what good advice (the only advice) is
available. Above all, it is children who *must* be protected, and
'tradition' is an important aspect of a governments` efforts to preserve and
ensure this.
Having said my bit, I agree with everything you have said, but the world
ain`t ready is it? Someone mentioned ancient Greek culture, where same sex
unions were common. Sex with children close to adults in ancient Greece was
also common, and not illegal. The two are different I know, but there are
still enormous hang-ups in the world`s thinking, even in the 21st century,
linking these two different phenomena in the same breath, enough to put on
hold, in sometimes difficult and hurtful ways, (a *hold* which is what I
nevertheless subscribe to) the movement towards freer and open
relationships. It may not be until America (or the world) has a new and
totally different culture - 1000 years?, when what some want today, will
not not be available until then. At present the Western world has taken hold
of children`s sexual protection, and put it at the top of it`s list - apart
from Islam that is - - - -
This is all from me now, re this - thanks for listening, and sorry to take
you away from clarinet. But I do find humanity as interesting as clarinet.
Perhaps I may become the next 'Bill Clinton' (how I wish) standing on the
doorstep of No 10, holding my instrument and smiling. (Perish the thought?)
