In the U.S. religion and politics are separate (or are supposed to be). =
Law can be and very often is, political. Religion is not legally =
supposed to be political, though many try to make it so, hence the =
battle over same sex marriage. for the most part those who oppose same =
sex marriage do so because of religious beliefs.
