Apropos this, I heard from Jon Steward a couple of weeks ago that Howarths
will soon be providing an alternative bottom (RH) joint for their A clarinet.
This means that you will be able to buy an extended half-clarinet to go with
your regular instrument's top (LH) joint, and just switch bottom joints in
order to play the Mozart concerto and whatever other pieces may require the
low notes.

There's already been a little party to show off the prototype, but
unfortunately I was out of the country, and haven't played the instrument
yet.
