It's good to hear so many others are as pissed off at this as I am. I'm
in a business to sell REAL instruments, like Buffets and LeBlancs... And
it's utterly EMBARASSING to see these pieces of crap being sold to =
na=EFve
band parents who are #1 too poor and #2 too stupid to realize you can't
just buy crap. GOD THIS MAKES ME MAD! You know they sell for $50? NEW?!
I can see a consignment Selmer maybe going for $50... Or a REALLY old
Artley Student model... But really.... Any clarinet that sells for less
than $300 is a waste of time and piece of crap. Can't the ICA sue these
people or something? There's gotta be a law about false advertising
(silver keys? Come on...)... And if there isnt there should be a law
that you cannot make CRAP musical instruments. Music is the highest form
of elation and it is blasphemous against the art itself to make and sell
such an instrument that displays such mediocrity. Did that make sense?
I'M MAD!

Yesterday in band class my band director was having each of the
clarinetists in the band play this passage and when she got to my right
hand (actually left hand) man, he said "this clarinet isn't working" and
she asked what kind it was. He showed it to her and she was like "First
act? What?" and he said he had purchased it at Costco. Then she started
laughing and said "Nowonder these two have so many intonation problems!
We have a Buffet
(me!)
which is one of the best in the world, and then we have COSTCO!" Then we
talked and laughed about it for a while and Eric said "They make
trumpets too!" and then Miss Berry was like "Don't tell us that! We
don't want the trumpets getting any ideas.

That clears up the mystery of why Eric can sound really good one day and
really bad the next. He has two different clarinets that he plays on. I
think that one of them belongs to his brother though, so he plays the
Costco clarinet every other day. At least the clarinet came in a case
and not the Barbie Doll box that said "GREAT VALUE!" that I imagined. I
believe we discussed Wal-Mart clarinets around a year ago.

Those damn Clarinets shouldn't even be legally for sale!!!! Problem is
that they have on the box that it is endorsed by a big Music Assc (Music
Teachers Guild of some kind) that looks and possibly is legit. What
isn't legit is that the box says that the Clarinet has Silver Keys!!! I
posted the name of the assc last year around Xmas time 2002 (see the
archives).

And that the Clarinet is complete crap in EVERY way. The owner should
dig up the receipt and return the Clarinet to Costco - they have an
unlimited time return policy. We just returned a DVD player that I got
tired of the lack of features after owning it (not used much) for over a
year in our Bedroom.
