FIRST ACT IS EVIL! My poor repairman pulls his hair out every time some
idiot brings one in to be fixed. Most common problem? Weak, bent keys.
That, and kids are dumb and can't learn to hold DOWN the 2nd and 3rd
rings while putting the thing together!!

/end rant

I beg to differ here. The JinYin clarinet is not the best instrument to
be
buying, but at least it plays reasonably well. The Simba and First Act
instruments don't even work. I have one student playing a JinYin and he
is
doing OK. The instrument plays well enough for him to progress on for
now. I have told his parents that he will need something better in
about a
year's time, but for now his bright green JinYin will do. I am not
pushing
JinYin here, just saying that the one my student is playing isn't too
bad
as a starter. The problem with it though, is that you can't advance
very
far with it. It won't accept a better mouthpiece and is very difficult
to
play above the staff (the latter might be fixable - I haven't wasted
any
energy trying though).
