How about the Nielsen Concerto? It's a bear though... Hm...
I was going to say Weber but you beat me to the punch. Mozart's one of
those "student favorites"... Blah I should know.
How about Rossini's Intro, Theme and Variations? The orchestral part
isn't too hard at all, and that piece is about 10 minutes long.

Subject: [kl]Solo w/orchestra?
The director of my local community orchestra has asked me to play a solo
with them on one of their chamber concerts in the fall. He wants
something no longer than 15 minutes.
The orchestra itself is ok, it's not quite a calamity orchestra, but
they aren't professionals, either. So while Debussy would be nice, I
fear they would destroy it with their intonation!!! I do prefer more
modern music - if I have to do an old chestnut, it will be the Weber
Concertino. I'd
rather not, though. SOS, ya know? None of those district-type solos,
ugh.
I hear them in students' lessons every year, I don't want to actually
have to PLAY one, LOL!
Suggestions of ANYTHING written after 1880 will be appreciated!!!! I
posted this on the BB at sneezy, too. If you know of recordings of what
you suggest, let me know those, too.
Thanks!
Lynn
