This is a possibility; but there's more at issue for both the store and
the customer than just the sale of an instrument. Anything can be
carried to unpleasant extremes, of course. A person could make a real
pest of himself (or herself) by entering a store every day and demanding
attention without ever buying anything. But no reasonable store
expects every sales effort to bear fruit, and no reasonable store
expects to sell to customers who haven't been given an opportunity to
educate themselves first. Music stores sell more than just
instruments, and most of them expect to invest some time with a customer
while the customer decides where to direct his or her attention next....
such as lessons? a method book? a different mouthpiece? repairs &
adjustment? a metronome? etc.
