Another Pit tip:

Some not too smart players hold the piccolo in their lap. Not a good
idea if you have to make a fast change to bass clarinet. So, you think,
just put the piccolo on the music stand. OK as long as you don't have
to turn pages.

So here is tip #2:
Determine where your hand is as you place the flute on it's peg. Now,
get a 3/4 X 3/4 inch length of wood that will cover the distance from
the leg of the same stand used for the flute peg, minus 3/4 the length
of the piccolo. Turn down one end for for 1 3/4 inches until it is
round, like a dowel and fits easily into the end of the piccolo, but not
too loose. Taper and round off the top 1/2 inch of this 'dowel'.

Get a piece of threaded steel rod the same diameter as the one used for
the flute peg about 2 inches long. Drill holes just large enough to
accept this rod in the stand. leg and up the bottom of the wood piece
you just made. Grasping the middle of the rod with pliers, screw it into
the wood. Place the other end of the rod in the stand (I use my sax
stand for all of this) and fasten it on the underneath side with a wing
nut.

It can be broken down and placed in the same case or bag you carry the
rest of the stand in.

You can adjust the length of the wood to fit your own needs. It is nice
to be able to know in the dark just where the end of the peg is as your
hand will be at the same level as it is when you put the flute on its peg.
