I've seen visual cues used this way:

2 fingers vertically:
1. take second ending
2. "Peace, Peace Among Us, I am now at peace with you", you finally
payed it the way I told you to after all the times you screwed it up.
3. "Victory", we all got it right this time, glad it's the last show.

fist:
1. close out the section (no more repeats/vamps, but watch out, getting
out of a vamp can happen at any time, not just at the end of the vamp
section (which is usually only a few bars anyway), and/or
2. the fist means: "I'm going to go to stop the piece within the next
few beats", (sometimes when someting goes wrong and you try to stop
gracefully in the middle of something, and/or
3. get ready to jump to the coda.
rolling circular motion:
1. moving on to the next section (usually take second ending or go on at
end of this vamp)
