Jim,

Besides looking for Jamie Aebersold books/CDs and Jazzfakebooks, have a look
at Eric Dano's wonderful jazz-clarinet website, lots of tips, information,
discussions, links and free downloads concerning playing Jazz on clarinet.

http://www.jazz-clarinet.com/

An interesting and helpful book I use myself to teach is "The Jazz Language"
A (Jazz) theory text for Jazz composition and Improvisation, by Dan Haerle.
Lots of info and exercises.

From the introduction, Dan Haerle:

"The Jazz language is a specialized form of communication within the world
of music. To be able to express him/herself fluently, the jazzmusician must
have a good grasp of the grammar, vocabulary and structures of this
language. This simple means that he/she must have a thorough understanding
of the construction of chords ans scales ans a ready knowledge of their
applications as recources which are available to serve his/her expression"

There are also lots of other helpful books by David Baker.

The very best thing to do is go out, visit 'Jamsessions' play, copy 'steal'
and transcribe from others.

Hope this helps.

All the best,

Aad Overeem
