A question for those of you that play a lot of musicals: Has anyone
seen a conductor use or used as a conductor any effective signals to
indicate whether to take a repeat again or go on?

The best indication I've seen is when the conductor simply spins his
finger in a circle indicating to repeat (loop), and then holds up a
closed fist when playing the passage for the last time.

What I've most often seen is the conductor holding up two fingers
in a sideways "V" (looks like an accent mark) to indicate "go back,"
and holding up a closed fist for "this is the last time, go on."
