There's been an interesting thread on the Clarinet board about the
=66inale of the Mozart Concerto, and, recently, whether anything shows his
sense of impending death.

The historical question is whether Mozart was seriously ill when he
wrote the Concerto. The question of how it affected him is always
speculative, but it seems to me that it's worth thinking about.

I feel a great emotional density in the slow movement, and it can be
played so as to draw tears.

However, the finale has always seemed joyful to me. Still, it's not a
light, bubbling rondo. This is great music, and it can be played in
many ways, including with an underlying melancholy and sense of tragedy.
Does anyone think of it this way=3F Is there enough there to support
playing it this way=3F

Best regards.

Ken Shaw
