Subj: [kl] Mozart's opinion of K.452
Date: Mon, 16 Feb 2004 22:45:35 -0500

A few weeks ago, I asked if Mozart was especially proud of one
particular composition that he wrote. Someone suggested that K.452
(quintet for piano, oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn) may have been one
of Mozart's favorites. So I bought a recording, and here's what the CD
liner says --- though it doesn't say when Mozart wrote this, and thus he
may've revised his opinion later on --- that Wolfgang Mozart wrote in a
letter to Leopold Mozart:

"I consider it [K.452] the best work I have ever composed."

....anyway, I think it's an interesting glimpse into a composer's
personality to hear the music in which the composer himself (or herself)
takes the most pride.
