Adeline Shepard was born in 1885 in Iowa. Her "Pickles
and Peppers
Rag" was published in 1906 and was adopted as the
campaign song for
the William Jennings Bryan presidential campaign.
Apparently the song
didn't help William. She was 23 at the time. Family
responsibilites
intervened and she never published anything else.
Pickles and Peppers
sold 2 million sheet music copies by the end of 1908!
Adeline died in
1950, and was known as a fun-living and spirited woman
- much like the
music that came from her pen. -John
