DAVE..........LOL Why do you think Terry retired fromWC? College
students
do the same thing, then expect YOU to make up the time.......(among
other
reasons)
Do you hand out a policy statement? I have one and I give it to
every new
student. If I didn't, the parents and students would walk all over
me.
There is no way this guy didn't know 24 hours beforehand that he
didn't
practice, so you need to charge him.
I am having similar problems right now with my clarinet choir, I think
I
will start charging dues so people take it seriously.....I hadn't
been, but
it's been in my mind for 6 months...... anyone have any ideas as to
what
would be fair?

Hi Lynn, yup, Terry Retired from West Chester Univ. and a former
Summer student of mine got the position :)
The student has no intentions of being a pro Clarinetist - he is just
doing it for fun.
Btw - he doesn't get a LOT of support at home (still lives with his
parents) - he is 22 yrs old and still in College.
When he is practicing and is woodshedding a particular section of the
music for too long, he hears from the other room "CHANGE THE
SONG!!!!" from his Dad who is a Cardiologist. (I actually laughed when
he told me that one :)
Jeez......
My students don't walk over me at all as I just don't let them, but I
do have a very friendly policy as from teaching for over 22 years, you
get flexible if you want to retain students who just do it for
enjoyment.
