Multiphonics in their very nature are something of a torment for
clarinetists due to the fact even different reeds will yeild a different
note depending on the resistance of the cane...

It is also frustating when composers add their "preferred fingering" only
later to find out it is a misprint after trying to get the bloody sounds to
come out of the $#&$ clarinet!

However, the majority of the time most composer's do go to great leagnth to
give accurate fingerings which work correctly. As to practicing
multiphonics I have always found a slightly softer reed gives finest
results...
