In most larger towns there are businesses that do "backpack type
sewing" and will take on custom projects. I've had several zipper
glides with broken away pull tabs replaced on Fox bassoon case covers.
The fellow in my town is also very reasonable.

I just don't think it would be much of a challenge for people who do
this kind of stuff to whip out a case cover with holes for handles and
a coil zipper to close it up. The cover could be of nylon or even a
nogihyde (sp?) or vinyl material.
