I use Wiseman, and my quad case with two sopranos and a basset horn has =
been
round the world twice with me, plus twice more Europe-USA, as carry-on
luggage. I have always been able to take this as well as a computer
briefcase as per TSA rules, even on non-US airlines. The one exception =
to
this was Ryanair, a cheap UK airline. Fortunately my wife was there to =
carry
my computer! Not the slightest problem with any damage.

But I sometimes travel with bass clarinet (Buffet to low C, model before =
the
current one) and eefer too, and these go in a separate Wiseman case, and =
no
airline will let you carry on all this lot, Matthew! Like Forest, I use =
a
nylon gear bag (Container Store in the USA, even has wheels) and stuff =
extra
bubble wrap around it. You can JUST get this under the new 60 lb limit =
on
some airlines (eg United). I have to say that you do have to be very =
careful
in packing the bass, since checked luggage gets thrown around. This lot =
went
round the world too. It is best to put a hard divider between the =
clarinet
on one side and the bell on the other, as even with the straps tightened
down, I did have a bump between the low C keywork and the bell, though =
no
functional problem. I have reported this to Howard Wiseman and he is =
taking
it very seriously. I think it might not be a problem with the current
generation Buffet which has a shorter lower joint and the low C key on =
the
bell.

The Wiseman bass case is advertised as carrying two sopranos as well. =
Well
it does, but is a terrible squeeze. You have to put one soprano bell =
inside
the bass bell, and a spare mouthpiece in your pocket! Great for an =
emergency
(Ryanair!) but not for routine.

I was waiting to bring this up until Howard had got back to me, but felt =
I
should answer the specific question. I will report his reaction and =
solution
on the list, as I am sure he will come up with a solution.=20
