Anne, it depends on your definition of "petit", but my solution began
with the most compact hard case that I could find (an ABS case intended
for student instruments, cost me about $39 brand new), and then I carry
this small case inside a full-sized 'businessman' briefcase (from a
thrift shop, another $25). Such briefcases have dividers that are
suitable for sheet music, and they leave plenty of room for tuner,
metronome, shaver, personal stuff, etc. Often I add a T-shirt or two
in order to keep things from rattling around in the unused space.

This setup looks klunky and amateurish, I suppose; but is the purpose of
a case to look elegant and professional, or is it to protect what's
inside? This setup has the advantage of not looking like an expensive
musical instrument that's worth stealing. Not large enough for a bass
or basset, but for soprano clarinets, it's the best way to fly (imo).
Once when I was backstage after a concert, I noticed that the soloist
was doing exactly the same thing. So there are two of us in this
world, at least.
