Walter,

In the interest of keeping the wood at its intended dimensions (and the
rings tight), I prefer humidification. Orange peels are my choice; others
have cited Dampits, etc.

Depending on the length of time the average service job takes, could you
humidify to an extent sufficient to tighten rings (a couple of days or so),
then give strong advice to the customer as to what is happening when the
rings get loose? JAI :-)
