I can't speak to the liability issues since I do not teach, but as far as good
recording device goes, I use a minidisc recorder as well. I the Sharp MD-DR7
minidisc recorder and the Sony ECM-MS907 stereo microphone. While not a
professional setup, the recording quality is very good.
