I hear that you need a permit to play in the tube. Don't know where to get
it. I had a bad experience back in the 80's playing in an underground
passage at Hyde Park with a colleage. Sax duets. Some punks came by and one
of them reached into my case and grabbed a hand full of change and walked
slowly away looking back at me challengingly. I was so stupid (ah, youth!)
to demand that he return it and was promptly kicked to the ground, blood all
over my sax but luckily only that. No broken bones or damage to sax. Other
than that ...

Yes - that is a pitch to be avoided if at all possible - lots of slightly
weird people hang out there, and if money is an added attraction - you won't
get much. I would recommend beginning at South Kensington in the passage to
the museums - the pitch is outside the underground so you won't get harassed
- it's mostly friendly - and you can get information about other places
there.
