Is it possible you are thinking of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln =
Center? This is David Schifrin's group I think.

The New York Chamber Symphony, founded by Gerard Schwarz in the late 70s =
at the 92nd Y as the Y
Chamber Orchestra, later changed its name to the New York Chamber =
Symphony when it was based at
Alice Tully Hall. If my memory serves me correctly, it has been defunct =
for two seasons. I have
never heard of a 'New York Chamber Orchestra' but it's certainly =
possible that one exists. It's
probably not the same group as the NY Chamber Symphony.
