Okay, Mathew, I'm prepared to be condemned for non-clarinet
conversation, but Greenwich Village was the only place on Earth during
my entire life where I became so utterly wasted (Rum & Coca Cola....
there! that's a song title, so this post involves music after all) that
I couldn't walk and I had to be carried home. The next morning, we
visited the Guggenheim, and peering over the edge of that reverse slope
was nearly the end of my existence.

All told, you cannot match the accumulation of... things & stuff, both
cultural & social, to be found while exploring in a truly old city.
Part of the experience is that you _want_ to get lost occasionally.
