Hi Rebecca,

You said this is for solo & ensemble. (1) Is there a playing list for your
state assn, and is the Rossini on it? (2) Are you graded by committee,
individual judge? (3) Is the submission live or played on CD?(Which it
probably is not if it's for S&E.

My questions deal with how someone else is going to look at your
performance. You're setting yourself up for a big blast from the judge(s).
I think what my (off-the-cuff) opinion would be, were I judging, it would
cost you a minimum of one grade for making such mush out of the work.

(The only aside I would have would be if you have to musically demonstrate
A, B, C, D, & E, and you can do that smoothly by doing what you suggest, I
think you'd get a lot less grief.)

I don't know how long you've been playing. (At some point, I think I did,
but it's drained out of my brain.) But I >think< the Rossini is either
grade 5 or 6 in this state, and few people outside of the upper class
sections at university would try it.
I tried it a couple of times while I was at university, but never found that
I was comfortable with it. Other works with similar dificulties suited my
playing better.

If you insist on doing the Rossini, I'd cut it back to one or two
sections, -- whatever you can comfortably fit into the time -- and
especially forget this diving through the part from here to there.
