Co-op Press is pleased to announce that clarinetist, Leanne Manning,=20
was awarded first prize of $500 and a CD release for her recording of=20
Sy Brandon=92s "Badinerie" for clarinet and piano in the 2003 Co-op =
Press=20
Woodwind Recording Competition.

Ms. Manning was born and raised in Australia, where she completed a=20
Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours at the University of=20
Queensland and a Graduate Diploma in Performance at the Queensland=20
Conservatorium of Music. During this time she was invited to perform=20
concertos with both the University and Conservatorium Orchestras, was a=20=

member of the Queensland Youth Orchestra, including principal clarinet,=20=

was principal clarinet with the International Youth Orchestra at the=20
International Festival of Youth Orchestras and was an active free-lance=20=

musician in the Brisbane area, playing with groups such as the=20
Queensland Symphony, Queensland Theatre Orchestras and the Victorian=20
State Opera. After winning the Queensland Conservatorium Woodwind=20
Prize and receiving first place in the Yamaha Woodwind Competition, she=20=

studied in England and the Netherlands then attended Michigan State=20
University, USA, where she completed a Master of Music, while receiving=20=

a music scholarship throughout her time there. Following a summer as=20
principal clarinet and soloist at the Rome Festival in Italy, she lived=20=

in Southern California, U.S.A., playing regularly in San Diego and Los=20=

Angeles with many chamber ensembles and orchestras, including the Long=20=

Beach, Santa Monica, Brentwood-Westwood and Pacific Palisaides=20
Symphonies, the Moscow Grigorovich Ballet, and Sonor, the faculty=20
contemporary music ensemble at the University of California, San Diego,=20=

including on the Los Angeles Philharmonic Green Umbrella Series. She=20
has performed with I Solisti del Los Angeles and with members of the=20
Los Angeles Philharmonic and Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra. Leanne is=20=

currently living in Hong Kong with her husband, clinical psychologist,=20=

Dr. Tommy Chan and their two young daughters. In addition to playing=20
principal clarinet with the Shenzhen Symphony, she is also a member of=20=

the City Chamber Orchestra of Hong Kong, the Island Clarinet Quartet=20
and she free-lance s with various other ensembles, including the Hong=20
Kong Philharmonic Orchestra. Ms. Manning was accompanied by Mary Wu,=20
Artist-in-Residence at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and a=20
faculty member of the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts.

"Variations" that includes solo and chamber music of Sy Brandon. It is=20=
