Eric,

Click on the link that Nancy Buckman just gave you. It is a device by Ben
Armato called "PerfectaReed".

It has a dial with a downward pointing measuring device exactly like you
just described.

Better yet, call or email him. He is kind enough to reply and answer any
questions you might have about this device.

I use the Reed Wizard for the quick ease of balancing reeds and it works
exactly as claimed.

thanks, walter! i know there are many manufacturers of calipers, like you
said....but could you give me a listing of a few manufacturers that you know
of, to give me a jump start on my search? i googled caliper, vernier
caliper and dial caliper and was inundated with many devices that looked
completely different, but were called the same thing (i.e. dial caliper).
I'm looking for one with a downward-pointing rod that comes from a dial
where you can read the width/thickness, but anything to give me a start
would be great. Thanks again.
