That thought had crossed my mind, but the lower joint is about the same size as my Bb R13. I won't have an A for comparison until later today (another eBay purchase :-P). After recorking the upper joint the lower fits properly so I don't think it's just mismatched - are Bb and A lower joints usually comparable in length?

Once I get the whole thing together and working we'll see how it is (both in key and intonation?), I'll have to jury-rig something to shim the mouthpiece for trying it before I ship the horn off to have a new barrel made or anything... Actually, my R13 barrel fits properly, it's just shorter, so if it does turn out to be an A horn then perhaps a standard replacement A barrel will work, I can certainly find a couple of those around here to try.
