Hi:
I have an "A" Albert clarinet marked "France" that has a bell with a nice, thicker turning of the wood on the end and no metal ring around the circumference. I don't know if this adds to the discussion, but I could get it out and look at it again and share the information. As I remember, it is original to the instrument. This instrument also has what one clarinet seller called "watermelon ball" keys (the part that holds the pad is round like a sphere instead of coming to a sort of point). Which is a whole other topic. I also have an old J. W. Pepper A high pitch which has flat keys for the pads. I wonder if any of this has to do with the year or era of manufacture?
Anyway,
Cheers,
John
