Ebay is certainly a different arena and a different context for
purchasing an instrument, compared to purchasing from a dealer whose
showroom you can visit or with whom you can do exchanges. The risks
with electronic auction are more severe, as well as being different.

So if you are saying "There are reasons why you may want to purchase via
electronic auction", I'll agree. Perhaps you want (or enjoy) a gamble,
perhaps you want a junker to tinker with, perhaps you want something
unusual that wouldn't be in your budget under other circumstances, etc
etc and etc.

But if you are saying that purchasing an instrument without first
inspecting and playing it (or buying it from a respected dealer with
total exchange privileges) is as trustworthy as purchasing sight unseen
(sound unheard and mechanisms unfelt).... there are simply too many case
histories to the contrary.

Most of us know this already, but for the sake of newcomers to this
list, I felt that it needed to be said (again),
