Subj: [kl] Some nice about Aliteri bags
Date: Sat, 17 Jan 2004 12:50:21 -0500

I recently had an experience with Altieri bags that was so very positive
that I thought I would mention it on klarinet.

My basset horn is carried in an Altieri bass clarinet bag (for a low C
bass). The two largest joints of the instrument are carried in the bag
in two tubes which are quite protective because they are so craftily
made and stuffed with material that prevents instrument injury because
of jostling.

One of the tubes is opened and closed with a velcro strip. You open the
tube through its entire length, inserts the instrument joint, and then
close it up with the velcro.

The other tube did not have that kind of situation. It was simply a
tube into which the joint was inserted. That was not an easy thing to
do, and it was also difficult to get the joint out of the tube. Once I
caught a spring on the tube in extracting the joint and bent it.

After a LONG time, I wrote to Altieri saying that while I liked the bag,
I was very unahppy with one of the two tubes because it was not openable.

I received a nice letter from Donna at Altieri who said that they had
changed that design for precisely the reason I was concerned about. If
I would send the bag back, they would fix it. So I did, fully expecting
to pay for the alteration and the return shipment.

Just got the bag back, it's fine, and they did this for me at no cost
including the return shipment. This was fully a year (maybe longer)
after I bought the bag in the first place.

That they were so responsive to the situation and volunteered to fix it
is a mark of how ethical they are.

Nice people, those Altierians (which makes them sound as if they came
from the planet Altieri).
