I get some of my biggest laughs from watching clarinet-related auctions on
e-bay, especially for mouthpieces. People will bid outrageous sums for
"big-name" mouthpieces that they've never even tried out and that have
counterparts that are every bit as good or better for a fifth of the price,
as well as ignore some really fine clarinet models because they're not
Buffets or Selmer Series X instruments. And one day you can't touch a
particular item for a zilliion dollars, but a few days or weeks later, there
are five of the same items up for auction that can't get a bid.

The real screams, though, are some of the descriptions. I've seen Bundys
described as "professional instruments" and metal clarinets as being made
out of silver, and of course every other older banged up clarinet in there
is described as "rare."

There are some nice things there, though. I bought a Evette Master Model for
$400 there (because it wasn't marked "Buffet") that I prefer over my 1964
R13 and my Opus.

Anyway, fun to watch. Like the Osborns.

Bruce
