Given the C clarinet part is high, transposing on a Bb clarinet is not an
attractive option. But I have it on good authority that at least two
recordings exist where the part is played on the Eb clarinet. I'd never do
it myself (I like playing it on the C) but it would certainly make it
easier while preserving a tonal difference from the normal clarinets. Nick
