A difficult issue to resolve. In grade school, my English teacher
explained Coleridge's and Poe's drug problems, and then she asked us to
decide whether we should reject the writing because it was drug-induced
and maniacal and fundamentally evil. Can we argue (my English teacher
then asked) that Church and State should be separated, and but
moral/ethical intent and artistic value should not be separated? Is
the only difference between these two questions that mixing Church and
State has more immediate and more practical 'bad' effects than mixing
morality/ethics and art?

Dan remains on solid ground so long as he describes the issue as 'voting
with his feet' rather than as pronouncing principles which everyone
should obey, imo.
