Good question. I don't know.
What about extending the mouth piece joint..does that make sense?

BTW, I found out that this "style" was not all that uncommon in the latter
half of the 19th Century and that Buffet was one of the last manufacturer to
use this integrated barrel system.

I learned that they abandoned the design because cracking was real problem
with this style. And if you look closely at the pictures, you will see that
the speciman I have, is in fact, cracked and pinned.

I wonder if they also had an issue with tunning them....;-)

Would like to see a picture of your 1921 LeBlanc.
