If there really isn't a serial number, there are other traits in the design,
key and spring style, positin of certain tone holes that will give you a
rough idea of the date of manufacture.

For example, is there the phrase "Made in France" versus just "France" on
the clarinet?

What are the exact signature markings on all the sections? Are ther any
additional letters or markings anywhere on the clarinet?

I own a Bb Boehm Buffet that pre-dates the use of serial numbers. It has
some specific characteristics. Here are some pictures of it. Not the spring
loaction of the right hand C#/F#. Note that the tone holes in the left hand
are perfectly in-line.
