I'm not sure that's the case. For me, I simply need a good, lengthy
warm-up, regardless of which instrument I'm playing (even the piano!).
I need to get the breath column going in a paced, rhythmical manner, and
get my embouchure "set" so that it does what I tell it to do ("set" not
meaning rigid, but more that the muscles are responsive to the orders
the brain gives it, rather than all over the place, "partying on" if you
will!). I also need to get my finger muscles going, and that means SLOW
scales - even, so that I'm thinking RHYTHM, not mush.

Of course, this sort of thing means that I'm ALSO getting my BRAIN ready
to play my instrument, as opposed to enduring the chaos that is the rest
of life! I'm sure others have a great deal to say about warming up!
