Hi, Mike:
I play Albert (simple) system and no other. I have picked up a Boehm clarinet on a couple of occasions just to see how they were different. My observations are, of course, my own; others may have different experiences.
First, the tone is very different (with the same mouthpiece and guy playing, ie me). Second, the keys on the Boehm feel incredibly closer together than on the Albert. I mainly play my C, and the keys are closer together on it than on a Bb, but they still seem a bit further apart than the Bb Boehm's. I have had some friends try my Albert out, and often they say the keys feel "further apart" and uncomfortable. Also, I play and prefer the Alberts with no rings on the upper joint. I'm not sure, but on most of the Alberts I've played, the ones with no rings on the upper joint seem to have a bigger, more open tone (I play Greek folk music, and this is perfect for our style). The Alberts with two rings on the upper joints tend to be a bit "dryer" in tone. I'm sorry that my choice of words may not be exact enough to communicate what I mean.
Anyway, you should try an Albert out and see what you think. It all depends on the particular instrument too of course.
There are a couple of pictures and .wav files on my site:

Contact me off list if you need an Albert clarinet.
Good luck and best regards,
