Can I add my two cents about arts funding?

Bravo bravo Forest for all you said -- alot of truth.
(Hope I can meet you some day, I play bass and contra,
and have seen you post in several groups around the
'net).

I worked for several years in fund-raising for the
arts in Dallas. I heard someone (of well-off
financial means, but sorry, I do not remember their
name) speak in a meeting about their motivation for
donating. There are many individuals who, while do
not have musical skills themselves, are IN AWE of
those that do. They donate $40 million for same
reason I donate $500 -- because they can, it makes
them feel good (altruism), and they have a desire to
see the arts succeed in Dallas.

Dallas, with all the suburbs and community groups, has
a WEALTH of art. You can go out every night --
sometimes twice a night -- and still not attend it
all. Yes, we have to rely on the rich and the
"bling-bling" they bring, but this is necessary to
make it happen.

FYI -- I heard that Mort did NOT give the naming
rights donation to DSO for the building, but someone
else did (who wanted anonymity), and named it in his
honor.

Thanks y'all for listening. Happy new year.
